What is Hack To The Future?

It is an un-conference that aims to provide young digital creators aged 11 - 18 with positive experiences of computing science and other closely related fields, ensuring that the digital creators of today engage with the digital creators of tomorrow.

We plan to offer a day that will inspire, engage and encourage young digital creators in computing/programming so that they may:

  • consider developing a related interest/hobby
  • discover resources to support their continued interest
  • take part in other associated initiatives
  • be encouraged to study further
  • explore future careers in this field
  • benefit from meeting existing practitioners
  • see beyond gender stereotypes in technology

Hack To The Future has been inspired by many initiatives, activities and organisations with similar aims, including Games Brittania, Coding for Kids, Young Rewired State, Computing at School, Interactive Opportunities Ltd, YOUSRC, <goto> foundation, The National Museum of Computing, Technocamps, University of Manchester Competitions, Manchester Girl Geeks and Alan Turing Year.

It is the long term aim that the Hack To The Future model be adopted by other regions around the UK. Discussions are taking place about hosting H2DF events in Birmingham, Wales, London, York and Scotland

To get a feel for what this event is about, take a look at our fabulous advert in the February 2012 edition of Linux Format magazine. It might be worth you watching the #h2df promotional video that I recorded in front of a class. It's also worth reading about our previous events- Hackademy- Inside The Machine and Hackademy- After Hours. You can also listen to Teknoteacher's Hack Rap to encourage more children (boys and girls) to think about what computing is. Hack To The Future has many supporters on twitter, some are attending and some are watching from afar - if you visit this lanyrd page, you can see who they are.

How do we get tickets?

If you are aged between 11 - 18 Years you should visit this event page here to get your tickets to this amazing event. Tickets are limited, so do not delay any more - sign up now. Adults should all visit this event page here to read more about this event. Unfortunately, tickets for adults have currently sold out - but we are running a waitlist and if you are interested in attending, you are strongly recommended to add your name to the waitlist. It is highly likely that some more tickets will become available.
It is worth noting that anyone is welcome to speak at this event, children, parents, teachers and practitioners. While it is hoped and expected that most of the talks, workshops and activities will be led by practitioners - ANYONE is welcome to lead a session. This would be an excellent opportunity for you to inspire an audience on something related to computing science, games, programing, hardware etc.

How can we help Hack To The Future achieve its aims?

It is important that we receive Your Help, with a few things we need to sort out. Please read and contribute to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and add things you think we should mention, discuss or think about. Some of you will have attended or organised events on different scales before and your contributions are important.
If you are interested in being one of our H2DF Speakers, we ask that you please provide some information about yourself here and please describe what you think you might be speaking about. You should read the H2DF Schedule information to find out what times our sessions will be. You can find a list of H2DF Sessions here as people add them. We have listed some information about our H2DF Venue, including Spaces or Session Rooms.
We have some amazing Sponsors & Partners, all working hard to make sure our event is a success. We plan to give Swag Bags and prizes to our youngsters, please add your suggestions for contents.
This page explains the long term plans of the H2DF Legacy and links to people interested in H2DF Around The UK. We will have useful H2DF Forms here and our Project_Plan. This is a list of Links to other related sites. Don't forget to use our #h2df twitter hashtag.
